From Frankfurt to Beijing: Special-Event Production Expert, satis&fy, Retained by NIKE to Create Technical Masterpiece
When the 29th Olympic games opened on August 8th in Beijing, Frankfurt-based satis&fy had already been hard at work creating a large hospitality and media lounge for American sporting goods giant NIKE – the outfitter of the Chinese Olympic Team.
A long-time client, NIKE retained satis&fy to create a 6,600 sq. yd. lounge within Beijing’s Dong Dan Park. Almost an entire redesign of the park, satis&fy’s 24-man crew:
- Installed room-in room concepts into the sports halls.
- Built storage areas on the adjoining basketball and soccer fields.
- Set up marquee areas and a portable kitchen container.
- Adapted technical conditions like power supplies and air conditioning.
- Installed video surveillance systems.
- Wired up the complete event area.
And that’s not all. In creating this technical masterpiece, the production company also refurbished staircases and restrooms. Outside of the sporting park, both a retailer lounge and a setup for the U.S. Basketball team were built. To get the job done right, satis&fy’s 24-man crew had additional support from local and international companies; at times up to 100 people were deployed on site.
Some bureaucratic hurdles had to be overcome to complete the job successfully. “Delivery of goods was only possible between midnight and 6 a.m. Therefore, we were busy around the clock”, explained Sebastian Hofeditz, satis&fy project manager.
Not to mention, the approval process for redesigning Dong Dan Park was a lengthy one requiring much patience and stamina. “For a long time we were unsure as to whether or not we could begin with construction and reconstruction at all,” Hofeditz reported. “ At times it looked like we were going to have to switch to another venue.” As a result of the uncertainty, for two weeks the event experts had to plan for two venues just in case they were asked to rapidly switch the complete implementation to another location.
