German Opera Ball 2008

Both national and international celebrities filled the Alte Oper opera house for the 2008 German Opera Ball in Frankfurt. Irish rock star, and patron of the ball, Sir Bob Geldorf was in attendance along with ex “Dallas” actor Audrey Landers, Austrian director Peter Weck, opera star Nadja Michael, singer Udo Jürgens and actor Alexandra Kamps. Organizer Manfred Pasenau teamed up with satis&fy for their expertise in technical execution and design.

Blossoming magic
Upon entering the opera house, the renaissance facade provided a pleasant surprise as it was not just dramatically lit, but was also projected upon via a video trailer. In addition to the lighting, audio and audiovisual execution, satis&fy was awarded with the decoration and stage design of the opera ball for the first time.

Starting approximately two days before the event, approximately 60 satis&fy specialists worked side-by-side installing technical equipment and decorating all areas around the ballroom and foyers. Hanging from the ceiling of the ballroom was an oversize blossom consisting of 16 motion-controlled petals. This 50’ wide masterpiece was built in just 14 days in satis&fy’s on-site wood & metal shops in Karben and transported to the opera house upon completion.

The stage backdrop contained a huge antique-like picture frame onto which live images of the night were projected. This set was designed in collaboration with stage designer Jens Hübner. A 30’ long curtain of LED-50 chains, a custom product designed by satis&fy, created a special lighting atmosphere. Guests and celebrities partied on until all hours of the night at the after show party, well-equipped by satis&fy’s production specialists, which was held at the Westin Grand Hotel.

“After three years, we were very happy to be a part of the opera ball again,” said Nico Ubenauf, founder and CEO of the event production company. “Our job was to combine traditional and modern values. With our technical and visual conception we reached this goal. Not to mention, we have received a lot of very positive feedback to date,” he explained.
