Heralding a New Look
satis&fy casts a new light on the office tower on the Thurn-and-Taxi-Platz
An enormous cloverleaf has illuminated both sides of the PalaisQuartier office tower, a 135-meter high-rise in the heart of Frankfurt, since January 6, 2011. Every day at 4 pm, Unicode character U+2318, the official symbol designating a place of interest, lights up the new office building’s sloping sculptural facade. The Dutch enterprise MAB Development, a leading European developer of commercial real estate, came up with the idea of using this symbol to wish the people of Frankfurt good luck and success for the new year 2011. The lighting effect also heralds the new look that the office tower brings to the PalaisQuartier, an inner-city ensemble that includes the Thurn und Taxis palace, Jumeirah Hotel, and MyZeil shopping center.
The Frankfurt marketing agency Activ Consult Real Estate GmbH was tasked to design and implement the lighting effect. The event and media technicians of Satis&fy AG Deutschland (satis&fy) from Karben also had a hand in crafting the installation. To create this lighting effect, the crew set up light boxes at 72 windows each on eight floors. Their fluorescent lamps are controlled by timers. “We took an efficient approach that achieves maximum effect with reasonable overhead and low energy costs," says satis&fy project manager Tobias Holler, who is delighted with this radiant highlight. Three weeks were devoted to planning; the go-ahead was given after a trial installation. The graphical symbol will grace Frankfurt’s skyline every night until March 7, 2011.
