FIFA Interactive World Cup 2008
On May 24th the grand final competition of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2008 took place in the courtyard of Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) is the largest football gaming tournament in the world.
Thirty-two finalists battled in public not only for the title of “FIFA Interactive World Player 2008," but for prize money totaling $20,000 (U.S. dollars).
On behalf of the agency “RPM living breathing brands,“ production company satis&fy AG Werne was called upon to take charge of lighting, audio and complete av-technics. Using three HD cameras (two of them radio camera systems), satis&fy’s video experts filmed games and e-footballers throughout the entire event.
Processing of live images, which were shown on an 18×10 ft. high definition 4mm LED screen, was carried out by a Barco Folsom Encore system. In addition, live images of the tournament were projected to the Berlin audience on nine HD plasma screens in the Sony Center. One of the unique challenges satis&fy faced was accurately adjusting the pixels of the entire video production environment to the same resolution and refresh-rate of the Sony Playstation (resolution 1280×720px, refresh-rate 59,94Hz) for which EA Sports created the “FIFA 08” game.
Furthermore, the team’s audio/visual professionals recorded the entire event on six HD-CAM SR recorders. Wtihin 24 hours, satis&fy had posted a live recording of the Interactive World Cup of virtual football onto the Internet. You can view it online at www.fifa.com
