Something’s Up

A nifty new video support gadget: the PufferSphere, an interactive 360-degree display for 3D applications

One look was all it took to set the hearts of the production company’s crew aflutter when an inflatable balloon was recently added to the video department of satis&fy AG Deutschland (satis&fy). The PufferSphere is an interactive, 360-degree display that can serve many purposes. For example, it may be used as a spherical screen to present, demonstrate, and get brand messages across at events and fairs. According to Francesco Elsing, head of the satis&fy video support team, a touch-sensitive option enables interactive applications. For example, objects in the sphere may be turned by hand. “We just recently added the display to our rental pool, but it has already won us over and then some. And it’s not just the easy portability that speaks for the PufferSphere’s deployment. It is able to convey topics of a global nature quickly and easily so that a very large audience gets the message,” notes Elsing, who is delighted with the new acquisition. satis&fy now owns one sphere with a diameter of three meters and another with four. An internal projector fitted with special lenses furnishes the images. Special sensors adjust the sphere’s pressure. Air is pumped in automatically when the pressure drops. The company first deployed the inflatable projection screen at a major automotive event in May at Frankfurt. The car manufacturer used the PufferSphere mainly to present its corporate locations around the world.
