The 2011 German Opera Ball

satis&fy stages the highlight of Hessian high-society events

Berlin has the Berlinale; Frankfurt has the Deutsche Opernball. The latter took place recently on February 26 in the Alten Oper. This year’s motto was Joy and Amusement. It was 29th time this showcase event was held in the Main-side metropolis. German TV stars such as Gudrun Landgrebe, Dieter Wedel, Indira Weis (a former cast member of a Survivor-like show), and Marie-Louise Marian (a veteran of the German soap saga Lindenstrasse) brought some celebrity glitz and glamour into the opera house. Although not in the limelight, satis&fy AG Deutschland (satis&fy) from Karben was certainly on the scene. The production company has become a fixture at the event. This marked the eighth occasion that the ball’s promoter Manfred Pasenau retained satis&fy to provide equipment, interior design, and stage construction services. As in the preceding years, satis&fy also furnished lighting, sound reinforcement, and decorations for the after-show party in the Westin Grand Hotel.

“We were responsible for just about everything expect the flurry of flashbulbs alongside the blue carpet. We also left the table decorations and catering to others," notes satis&fy project manager Rainer Wendt summing up the company’s activities. More than 60 satis&fy crew members worked nonstop for two days in and on the opera house to give it a glamorous look and feel worthy of the Academy Awards. Five trailers trucked 62 tons of equipment and material to Frankfurt, including 2,500 square meters of fabric, 500 square meters of rental curtains, 40 square meters of graphical artworks, and 420 lamps. As in recent years, a huge flower made of steel and fabric graced this year’s ball. The stage backdrop was also a tried-and-true solution. The evening’s live footage was presented on a nine-by-seven-seven meter panel styled to look like an antique picture frame. A ten-meter-wide LED curtain made of 100 LED-50 modules providing impressive lighting effects throughout the evening, especially during the performances of former Bee Gee Robin Gibb and Irish pop singer Johnny Logan. The curtain was controlled via a Catalyst media server. Next to the actual ballroom, satis&fy also geared up the venue’s outdoor and entrance areas as well as the foyer to make these ancillary settings fit for this glitzy event.

satis&fy AG Deutschland has earned a top spot among European providers of event technology with its ability deliver a one-stop solution. This end-to-end offering encompasses lighting, audio, video, presentation, and stagecraft technology and services. The production company also constructs exhibition stands, and offers set, graphic, and 3D animation design services, as well as furniture rentals. Its equipment and materials pool is one of Europe’s largest. The event service provider’s holistic approach and full-service offering, all from a sole source, are among its greatest strengths. Headquartered in Karben, the enterprise employs more than 260 people. It maintains further branches in the Westphalian town of Werne and, since 2006, in Berlin. A subsidiary company operates in the Netherlands.
