Quatsch Comedy Club celebrates vicennial anniversary
The anniversary gala celebrating the Quatsch Comedy Club’s 20th birthday was held in the sold-out Max-Schmeling-Halle on Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg on February 1st. The troupe’s founder and leader, Thomas Hermann, was joined by 7,500 guests. The TV broadcaster ProSieben aired the four-hour anniversary show on February 9th to an audience of millions. The star-studded show featured many comedians, and the lighting design by Jerry Appelt lived up to the stellar billing.
The experts from satis&fy AG Berlin (satis&fy) furnished, rigged and controlled the house and stage lighting. The crew deployed more than 700 floodlights, 80 motors, 650 meters of trusses, and 18 kilometers of cables to get the job done. satis&fy used Vari*Lite VL3500 spots and Expolite Tour LEDs, among other units, for the lighting rig and the stage’s backdrop matrix. The lighting package also included Martin MAC III, Clay Paky Sharpy, GLP Impressions, Robe Colorwash 2500E AT units, Martin Atomic 3000 units with scrollers, iPix BB4 LEDs, and 2-Lite, 4-Lite and 8-Lite blinders. The FOH desk was equipped with three GrandMA1 Full Size consoles and one GrandMA 1 Light desk. All signals were sent via an optical fiber network using two GrandMA NPUs and one GrandMA NSP2.
A total of 28 technicians and helpers spent two and a half days setting up the rigs. Studio Berlin Adlershof GmbH had brought the specialists from satis&fy Berlin on board for this gig.
